Please keep in mind that this is a random thought that is in the 'what the fuck' category. Feel free to weigh in as I am always looking for other views on all things discussed. Here we go.....

I have got to ask: why in the fucking hell some people who receive government assistance -- particularly food stamps, negotiate their damn stomachs and possibly their children for the latest fashion? Is it really okay to give their assistance to someone for a cash payout in order for them to stay fashion forward? Is it fair to assess that  their mentality is to go hungry, subject themselves to hunger pains for the sake of looking good or 'dapper don fucking fresh' at any and all cost?

Discuss.

what the f are you talking about? are you saying people exchange food stamps for cash for clothes/ fashion???? desperate peeps do desperate deals so they can dress for a job interview or get crack???? i'm just guessing .. btw.. i stepped into Atlanta once and i have no desire to ever go there again...

I have seen some sell their fs for other things but I have never seen some do it for clothing yet although I wouldn't doubt that it has happened before. I see urbanvirgin got her feathers ruffled on the subject.

Some sell for much worst things but before I let myself or children go hungry, buying name brand clothing would not be an option but making a payment on a serious bill would be another thing.

Urbanvirgin got upset I see. You must have been stepping on her/his toes on this one.

@theoneandonlybean cosign. Then she brought up something totally irrelevant. What Atlanta has to do with this?

@urbanvirgin:

Well, damn, tell me why you are really tart?
I didn't step on your toes with this one, did I?
Really, why did you get offended?

I noticed that you did by bringing up something totally irrelevant; validating *via spin* why some people do this as well as a particular demographics *as if my topic doesn't happen in other regions*.

With that in mind, I like to know the same damn thing as TriniDivia, what does Atlanta have to do with this? You make it seem that Atlanta exclusively stand alone in practicing this bullshit -- government vouchers are designed to make certain that those who receive them don't have to go hungry and therefore not be a bartering/negotiation tool supplementing ill prioritized matters like purchasing a pair of Rocawear Jeans for example.

As I said, it is a random thought based on what I have seen some people do right in shopping malls and ironically, THROUGH OUT cities that I have traveled in the US. So, if you are going to name one city, please include many others rather than targeting one. It comes across as not only a bitter experience you had there but also that you may have done something remotely similar to this topic. Shame on you much?

Which brings me to this:If you are one of the people doing this and faced some sort of embarrassment that forced you to leave the city, if not the entire region, for 'higher grounds', perhaps, this will give you pause on ever doing it again.

As always, thanks for reading and even commenting. Nothing like getting an idea where some people's heads are at aside from my own.

Peace!

^^lol,as i understand , food stamps are for food, if a person wants to sell their $99.00 food stamp card for $33.00. that is their business,it is a federal offense,so wtf, they go to jail, then receive FREE, food, clothes, healthcare, laundry sevice, rent, goon squad security service, mail service, cable tv,toiletries, educational programs.... lol.

The going rate for (food stamps for money) in the Dallas/Fort Woth area is 50% on the dollar. So you spend $200.00 and it cost $100.00. Yes it happens all the time. Lets just see, a family with five children will get about $800.00. depending on certin variables. That can be exchange for some really nice shoes like air jordans for a hundre dollars or so. It's better to look good than to feel good. ( at lest thats what certin people think)

I don't usually get into debates about govt shit but this one I must comment on. In some situations life can throw u a curve ball and u need help.

What happens if u live in a 2 income family and one income goes away. U have good clothes but now that u lost an income u need some temp help.

Or what if u are unemployed and the person who was making the money in your home just picks up and moves out leaving u with a mountain of bills. Shouldn't u ask for help so that u can at least eat until u find yourself homeless??

I understand the direction that this post is going as I have seen similar instances of this for myself and it is clear that at least 2 others who posted a comment do too.
I also agree with commentors who say that urbanvirgin was offended and gave herself away by her comment which reeks of a guilty conscience....smh. Got to do better honey.
I do get where sexyblueeyes is coming from with his/her comment and there is nothing wrong with seeking help under those circumstances but the relevancy lies in how some people are abusing the help given just to stay up to date on bullshit. Clothing?! Come on now. So like Gary Garner said "It's better to look good than to feel good. ( at lest thats what certin people think)"....that's a damn shame all within itself.
Just sticking to the topic that's all.

HERE IN ENGLAND, THE UNEMPLOYED GET MONEY EVERY TWO WEEKS. I THINK IT IS AROUND $225 FOR A SINGLE PERSON. THEY GET ASSISTANCE WITH HOUSING AND A FEW OTHER THINGS. YES, YOU DO SEE THEM SPENDING THE MONEY ON CLOTHING AND AT LEAST 3 NIGHTS OUT A WEEK IN THE BARS.

WHEN I WAS GOING THROUGH A BAD FINANCIAL PERIOD, MY FIRST THOUGHTS WERE TO KEEP MY HOME AND TO FEED MYSELF. THE LAST THING I WANTED WAS TO SQUANDER THE MONEY I HAD COMING IN.

WHEN CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH KIKK

cosign with everyone except urbanvirgin and sexyblueeyes since they either half read or misunderstood the nature of the post. As a matter of fact I was asked if I wanted to buy some today on my way to the grocery store with my own food stamp card lmao! How's that for laughs.
